Hazelnut processing solutions

Hazelnut sorting machine

Remove rotten, moldy, dark, shriveled and insect-damaged hazelnuts, shell fragments, stones and foreign material from in-shell, raw kernel and roasted hazelnut lines. We build our optical sorters in Türkiye, the world's leading hazelnut producer.

Defects by product form

Every hazelnut form has its own defect profile.

In-shell nuts, natural kernels and roasted or blanched kernels are sorted to different criteria. We define them together against your buyer's specification.

Hazelnut forms

In-shell hazelnut

  • Broken and cracked shells
  • Stained and dark shells
  • Shell and husk pieces
  • Stones and foreign material

Natural kernel

  • Rotten, moldy and dark kernels
  • Shriveled and insect-damaged kernels
  • Shell fragments and broken kernels
  • Stones and foreign material

Roasted / blanched kernel

  • Over- and under-roasted kernels
  • Skin remnants
  • Dark spots and discoloration
  • Foreign material

Accept/reject limits differ per production and buyer; final criteria are set together during the sample test.

Which defect, which technology?

Four ways of looking at a hazelnut.

Some hazelnut defects are visible on the surface; others hide under the shell or inside the kernel. We match the technology to the defect.

01

Colour, shape and texture

5K UHD+ cameras and a deep-learning model trained on your product evaluate colour, shape, texture and surface together.

02

UV for toxin risk

An optional UV light source available on the SNT-S series was developed to separate kernels carrying toxin (aflatoxin) risk.

03

Near-infrared (NIR)

The K series uses infrared imaging to tell shell from kernel without being misled by similar colours.

04

X-ray

The YX and YX Pro series use density analysis to catch empty nuts, internal defects and hidden stone, glass or metal.

Recommended series

SNT-YA series for hazelnuts

SNT-YA is a horizontal belt optical sorter for dry, large-grain products. Hazelnuts, almonds, walnuts and pistachios are among its applications.

Double-layer YAD models double cameras and ejectors in the same footprint. For internal defects and hidden foreign material, the X-ray YX series is evaluated; for UV toxin sorting, the vertical-channel SNT-S series.

Machine selection

We start from your product, then size the line.

In-shell hazelnuts and blanched kernels are not sorted with the same settings. Product form, size, input quality and target capacity are evaluated together.

  • We define the product and the defects to remove on your sample.
  • We choose the technology and configuration for your target capacity.
  • We review sorting quality and good-product loss together during the test.

Capacity and sorting results depend on product type, moisture and input quality, and are confirmed with your sample before quotation.

FAQ

What to know before choosing.

Which hazelnut products can you sort?

In-shell hazelnuts, natural kernels and roasted or blanched kernels. Separate criteria are defined for each product form.

Can aflatoxin-risk kernels be removed?

An optional UV light source available on the SNT-S series was developed to separate kernels carrying toxin (aflatoxin) risk. Its suitability for your product is evaluated in the sample test.

Can you see defects inside the shell?

Cameras only see the surface. For empty nuts, internal defects and hidden stone, glass or metal, the X-ray YX and YX Pro series are used.

How does the sample test work?

We run your product on the machine and review together which defects are removed and how much good product is retained. Machine selection and quotation follow the test.
